Style Challenge: Can You Transform 3 Unworn Wardrobe Items Into Completely Wearable Options? ♥

What's that? The smell of a new, regular feature? Why yes! It certainly IS!

So, once a fortnight, I thought it would be kind interesting to undertake a ''style challenge'', where I complete a task, such as wearing a pigeon as a hat - or not - and try to make it, well, work. It could involve attempting to make a dress solely out of pizza boxes and then wearing it somewhere public, or on a less frightening note, forcing myself to frock up in a colour that I would never, ever normally don (lime green? RED?!) for an entire month. Am I excited? Yes! Terrified? Mildly!  Will it be interesting, and force me to jump out of my current sartorial state of ''safe''? Gosh, well here's hoping. And with that, allow me to present the first ever style challenge: selecting three items from my wardrobe that I never, ever wear, and transforming them into more wearable (desirable?!) outfits!

x Item #1: The Thrifted 80's Ballgown

First up? Greetings, $12 vintage dress!

With your dramatic polka dots and lovely metallic sheen, it was   impossible to resist adding you to my wardrobe! But you see, that's the problem: that's exactly where you've stayed. For a year. There's been no outings, no swishing or swirling, and absolutely no parading about of any kind. Which is a shame, because even though some of my loved ones have recoiled in your presence (and muttered something about you which sounded suspiciously like the words ''tin foil'' - fools!), I still think you're beautiful! And let's prove your potential; let's make you FUNCTIONAL!

Okay, so neither of these photos are going to win me first place at the Photographer Of The Year Awards (which is such a shame, because I'd made room on my bookshelf for the award and EVERYTHING!), but ta-dah! No, dress, you're no longer a shiny extravaganza, but you are finally seeing the light of day and are infinitely more wearable when paired with a singlet/jacket combination and flaunted as a skirt then when you were your former formal self!

x Item #2: The Frumpy Dress

Did somebody say ''sack''?! No? Oops. Best get my hearing checked, then. But seriously, if someone had called out ''sack''? All would be forgiven. I mean, just look at that shape! There's simply no other word which describes this garment quite as accurately. Charmed by its $6 price tag, we struck up a friendship in a second-hand store one day but since then, it's stagnated in a signifcant way. It's not that I don't call it enough, or that we don't occasionally meet for coffee; it's really just the fact that when I try it on, I could easily be mistaken for 62 instead of, you know, 22.

Until a gigantic belt, a pair of boots and a fluffy coat come to my rescue!

x Item #3: The Band T-Shirt

Half the fun of going to an excellent concert is acquiring an equally excellent t-shirt of the very band that you're seeing, except the only time that any of mine seem to be debuted is when I'm about to a) sleep; or b) walk the dog! (Tool would be SO disappointed.) It's not intentional; I just feel so incredibly masculine when I try to incorporate them into my usual attire.

The solution? Heels = approximately $60. Skirt = approximately $30. Sequinned cardigan = approximately $80. No longer appearing as though I've raided my boyfriend's wardrobe? Priceless!

Which items in YOUR wardrobe are the least worn, and what could you mix and match them with - from your existing pieces - to change that? (And also, if there's any particular Style Challenge that you would like to see completed in the near future, please let me know in the comments section! But if it's ''stop wearing black all the damn time'', honestly, I'm working on that!)

xoxo

this is great - maybe you could make it a general challange? how amazing would it be to get a whole lot of people participating in any given week-/monthly theme and posting pictures? i'd totally be up for that.

i do the wardrobe overhaul+transformation thing quite often...but usually it resaults more in a pile of 'to the opshop!', and a pile of stitchable reconstructions-to-come...which of course i rarely have time to manifest into Actual new items.

perhaps i shall follow your example and try the more achievable mix+match approach...at least for a week!

(also. i don't believe in ceasing to wear black!)

Oh I love the new life you've given to those outfits! :)

I have a giant stack of clothes I just pulled out of my wardrobe and now you've made me reconsider some of them... (hahaha)

Wow... just in time! Today I plan to spring clean my wardrobe, and I may add this tip when trying to decide if something is to toss or to keep!

Thanks!

And by the way, great results (love the ex-sack outfit!)

Pizza box dress FTW!

I love the way you styled the ball gown!

I definitely want to see your thoughts on wearing hats. Maybe not pigeons right away, but hats in general.

Most of my unworn outfits are the ones that no longer fit me!

I'm so wanting to see the pigeon hat.

Can I just say how terrifying it is to return here and see what feels like, 2,37678 photos of myself?! Argh!

Thalia - I did! All except the last one (because it was absolutely FREEZING that day) - but if I added some stockings, then there's absolutely no reason why I wouldn't wear it out!

Julie - Thank-you so much Julie, and I would love to see your results!

Miss Peregrin - Haha aww, thanks Stacey :) I would love to see what you come up with!

Lauren - Thank-you, wheeee! Me too!

Rainbows & Heels - Why thank-you! And I know, it can be a bit of a daunting task, but starting with just three items can make it a bit easier!

I love how you wore the band t-shirt. I have so many things in my closet that I never wear that I wouldn't even know where to start, but I really like this idea.

Yay, yay, yay! This sounds so great! I'm excited about Style Challenges :D

I AM SO TOTALLY GOING TO DO THIS! I love the ways that you came up with to revamp this stuff, you clever person!

First I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes. I'm on my iPod Touch and it's 5am on a Sunday (insomnia? Totally).

New feature!! Exciting! Mmmm, I might have a thing or maybe ten hanging around that I don't wear. I did got rid of the things that I never wore on January and I haven't bought much since, so I'm gonna look and try this little challenge.

I love how you wore the ball gown. It really changed the look if the dress and the skirt is beautiful! XD I wear my band tees to school with jeans and ballet flats to try and look more "femenine" but who am I kidding? Band tees were created with boys in mind.

Kisses.

This is such an interesting idea! I bet we all have some unworn items in our wardrobes. Actually finding a way to wear them must feel like having a whole new outfit, without spending a cent.

I must say, I'm on the opposite end of the band-shirt spectrum: I wear them pretty much every day!

Did you end up wearing any of these outfits out?

As for more challenges: since you mentioned lime green, I cannot help but think it would be wonderful if you could incorporate a bit of that colour into maybe one or two outfits in a certain week? And wear them out of the house, of course ;)
