It's Friday! ♥
June 19, 2010

Son of a beach ball, it's the end of the week!

And regardless of the fact that it's uh, now Saturday(oh, ship), it's never too late (or early! No, it's definitely late) to appreciate marvellous things!

Fringey - What was initially treated with relative terror and trepidation has blossomed into a farcical brand of love: dearest fringe, I'm smitten with you so! I adore the fact that you've been fetching comments from even the most unlikeliest of sources and having short hair again after being a loyal member of the length brigade for years is EXACTLY the kind of external shake-up that I needed.

x Super Supportive Folk – From the genius website whiz that is Juliette Maxwell to the person that sends me entries to competitions that they think I would love to win and the delightful former co-worker who sends me information about work that they think I might be interested in and refers me to other excellent women, there have been a heap of fabulous people who have helped me enormously this week who are completely superb and very worthy of merit – and for that, I am incredibly grateful. Thank-you!

x Having A Fully Functional Phone Once Again - I know this sounds like such a ridiculously small triumph but seriously, I have not had a fully functioning phone since December and it feels stupidly good to finally be reunited with one again!

''So, what exactly are you looking for in a mobile phone?’’ The telephone sales consultant quizzed me when I went shopping for a new one last weekend. ‘’Um, one that rings?!’’ I replied. ‘’Honestly, I am useless with technology and even though it would possibly be mightily exciting to be able to receive e-mails on-the-go, I would probably never have a clue how to retrieve them, let alone answer my phone when it was ringing, so something that’s just simple and basic would be GREAT!’’

A week later and I still haven't nailed how to properly send a text message, but hey. It rings!

x Other Little Things - Waking up early and being uncharacteristically organised (who knew that it could actually be beneficial to rise a few hours earlier on a Saturday morning?! I mean, imagine that!)Gossip Girl; unexpected opportunities presenting themselves like wonderful little surprise presents; practicing self-awareness; having a rain-free week (hallelujah!); occasional bouts of late-night television (I am so behind on watching Underbelly: The Golden Mile that I probably shouldn't even bother and invariably end up hiding behind a cushion through most of it anyway, but still - it's King Cross and it's Sydney and it fascinates me!); and Tom, for being the (welcome) practical influence that I am often not.

This Week -

x I Can't Stop Listening To - The Troggs' With A Girl Like You, The Stone Temple Pilots (have I officially moved into dinosaur territory by realising that I've been listening to them for almost ten years?), and this:

x A Lesson Learned - There seems to be so much emphasis on competition. EVERYWHERE. ''Lady Gaga is ten times better than Christina Aguilera!'' pop enthusiasts cry.''Her outfit (useless example) is SO much more stylish than her's,'' made-up-person-at-the-shopping-mall says. ''Nicole Richie wore that handbag in a way that Paris Hilton never could!'' the gossip magazines exclaim. It always seems to be this versus that, ''skinny'' versus ''fat'', beanie versus a hat - but why? Why is there always such haste involved with comparing rather than acknowledging that truly, there's room for everyone and everything in the world and that really, it would be far more beneficial to work with this and each other as opposed to against it all, and creating imaginary walls and mental barriers that weren't needed in the first place?

Suggestions For The Week Ahead -

x Reconnect with an old friend! A travelling partner from three years ago? An ex-colleague who was  a saviour in an otherwise nightmarish environment? A person that you connected with in a bar because while they were speaking to you, their chewing gum flew out of their mouth and onto your face and then remained glued to your handbag for the rest of the night?! (This did actually happen to me once; but I can't say that we connected)! Who?

Complete an act with the intention of improving or positively contributing to your environment in even the smallest of ways. No, I'm not going to suggest that you hug a nearby tree and dance around it or sing to blade of a grass and don a t-shirt containing a peace sign (unless, of course, you want to!) but why not skip the receipt (and therefore reduce the amount of paper consumed each day) at the ATM? Or engage in the 'one-light-on-at-a-time' rule? Or skip the lights entirely and rely on candles?

How was your week?!

xoxo
